Our story…

The name of the game is LOCAL

A dilapidated Grade 2 listed property became available in our local village which we decided to convert into a pub. We took this project on which involved refurbishment and adjustments to this beautiful building. We maintained our green policy and ensured that all building materials used were repurposed from other sources. Our bar was built from the waste pallets from brewery deliveries, our shelves were all from a local scaffolder throwing away some old boards. All decorations and fixtures and fittings were lovingly selected and supplied from local flea markets, auctions and second hand stores.

Our pub is called “The Reading Rooms” - the property was originally a reading room which was a movement by the Temperance Society – designed to keep people off the evils of drink. We’ve obviously turned that on it’s head (though soft drinks are available!). It would be safe to say that all of our neighbours now know each other a great deal more as they are all drinking in the Rooms.

We only stock local produce – we proudly stock our own beer but also buy from all other local breweries – all of whom are making some excellent beers. We also stock locally produced cider, wine, lager and soft drinks. We are even lucky enough to be able to supply a range of local spirits which are distilled from a mere two minutes walk from the pub. Farr Brew now also works in conjunction with a fantastic local distiller to produce our own “London Dry” Gin – including hops grown by us as one of the botanicals.
